Brew Crew picks up first win of the year behind great pitching by Ryan Style and Scott Wawrzyniak, along with timely hitting and good eyes at the plate.
Game started out as a pitchers duel between Ryan Style and Arlington A's starter Michael Bullert. Then A's veteran Scott Dose smashed a 1-1 Style curveball over the left field fence for a solo homerun. This would turn out to be the only the Brewers pitchers would allow.
The Brewers answered back with 4 in the bottom of the 4th inning and didn't look back from there. With one out in the bottom of the 4th Marc and Scott Wawrzyniak both drew walks and each advanced a base on a sharp Ryan Style single to left field. Jorrin Pautz then walked forcing in M. Wawrzyniak and keeping the bases loaded for Colt Trebesch who also walked forcing in another run. Style and Pautz would eventually come around to score on two wild pitches by Bullert. Bullert was able to retire Derek Weber after a long at bat and then get Josh Kraby to groundout to second after working the count full.
The Brewers got two more tallies in the 6th inning when S Wawrzyniak led off with a walk and moved to third on a sharp Pautz single to left centerfield. Pautz then stole second base and Wawrzyniak scored on an infield single by Derek Weber. (Congrats to Web on his first amateur hit!) Pautz then scored one batter later when Kraby singled to left field after being behind 1-2 in the count.
The Brewers scored their final runs in the 7th inning when Brad Hundt led off with a walk, followed by a single to right field by M Wawrzyniak. Both runners were able to advance a base on a wild pitch and Hundt came in to score on an error by the Arlington shortstop. M Wawrzyniak later scored on a pastball by Bryce Eggert, the Arlington catcher. Scott Dose, who replaced Dan Chies on the hill one batter into the seventh, then struck out the next three Brewers ending the threat, and the scoring in the seventh.
The Brewers had one more chance in the eighth inning when pinch hitter Matt Godel took one off the back of the melon and eventually moved up to third base on pastballs but Dose settled down to strike out the last Brewer hitter.
Defensively both teams played well, topped by an amazing play by Brewers second baseman Brad Hundt who went far to his right and came up throwing to retire A's 5 hitter Jake Lucas in the 4th innings.
Style continued to pitch well on the mound, finally giving up his first hit and run of the year,3 appearances into his 2012 season.
Scott Wawrzyniak releived Style in the top of the seventh inning and pitched 3 perfect innings whle striking out 4 A's hitters.
Marc Wawrzyniak led the Brewers in hitting going 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored.
